KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms

The Spores Develop

KÄÄPÄ Biotech’s CEO Eric Puro started cultivating mushrooms himself in his own backyard in 2014, but like all important stories from Finland, this also begins from a sauna ...

KÄÄPÄ itself started in 2016 when Eric invited his friend over for sauna, who brought a mycologist friend and the many passionate discussions resulted in bringing Eric’s mushroom cultivation into a whole new level and the company sprung into life.

Since then, the early one thousand-log mushroom farm steadily expanded into 20,000 log medicinal mushroom cultivation. At the original outdoor mushroom farm the team learned from nature what mushrooms need for their growing conditions. Now the original mushroom farm serves as the research & development lab., whilst all the knowledge  gained is put it into practice at their vast indoor mushroom growing facilities where they replicate natural conditions to create the most potent products sustainably and on a larger scale.

Based on experience from the outdoor farm, the growing conditions are closely controlled, such as temperature, humidity, O₂ and C0₂-levels,  light and added stress factors, which results in mushrooms with the highest levels of the Compounds of Interest, i.e. the most bioavailable extracts that are the richest you can find in the active compounds.

Supporting Forest Biodiversity

Finland has cleanest air and water ever measured, and the clean forests ensure that the mushrooms are eating the healthiest and cleanest food  –  the birch trees - which are FSC and/or PEFC certified for commitment to sustainable forest practices.

It is so important to KÄÄPÄ to protect the Finnish forest that they are working closely with forest owners enables a truly transparent growing environment for mushroom production, changing the status from the Nordic forests being cut down for the use of the paper or building industry, instead supporting cultivation of medicinal mushrooms in the region's forests.
